Professional Etiquette

Our first year students attended their last of three mandatory “professional development” presentations of the semester yesterday.  The September presentation focused on professional health.  October’s focus was the professional use of social media.  Yesterday’s topic was professional etiquette.

The presentation featured two speakers: Los Angeles attorney (and alum), Ted Holmquist, and one of our popular professors, Mireille Butler.  Ted serves on the summer associate hiring committee at his firm, so he focused primarily on the interview process for securing a summer job.  Professor Butler has a wealth of experience and spoke to the wider topic of how to “act like a professional.”

Both speakers did an outstanding job, and I believe several of the pointers shared will serve as valuable seeds as our new students begin their growth toward becoming respectable members of the legal profession.

Another useful event for students that was not available many years ago.
