During the fall semester each year, the Pepperdine University School of Law hosts the William French Smith Lecture in memory of General Smith, who served on the Board of Visitors of the law school. The 2013 Lecture took place last Friday afternoon and featured former secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff. Mr. Chertoff’s lecture was titled “Big Data as Big Brother” — the fascinating topic of privacy. Following his lecture, Mr. Chertoff took part in an interesting conversation with Dean Tacha, Professor McNeal, and Professor Schwartz.
The event was held at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, which served as both a beautiful and appropriate setting for Mr. Chertoff’s visit. It was a great evening, and I enjoyed seeing faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and students together in one location!
