Every year around this time we get a notice from the National Fire Weather service that a “Red Flag alert” has been raised. The unique combination of strong winds and mountainous terrain mean that even though we’re close to the ocean. Humidity can drop to almost nothing! Red Flag warnings are created to prevent the likelihood of a wildfire starting and spreading across the valley. You can find out more about the warning here… http://emergency.pepperdine.edu
Fortunately, we at Pepperdine have an AMAZING emergency response team that does a tremendous job not only keeping us informed of any potential danger but also works closely with the local authorities. So closely in fact, that Pepperdine actually serves as the command center if and when there are fires close by. The campus is essentially the safest place to be! (well, you understand what I’m saying.)
We’ll continue to pray that this will be a quiet year in regard to fires. We’d love if that would be your prayer too!
